Porto // August 2017
This summer we came to Porto, a coastal city in Portugal, for our honeymoon! This was our first trip just the two of us abroad so we were super excited to explore a country together which neither of us had been too.
We flew directly from London to Porto and took a 20 minute taxi into the main part of the city where we stayed in the most charming Airbnb apartment with a stunning roof top view overlooking the city, making the perfect evening, drinking port and watching the sunset.
Everyone in Porto were so friendly, we had a special meal in a restaurant called Taberna do Largo, traditional Portuguese tapas lit by wine bottle lights and the most amazing staff. One of the guys pulled up a stool, sat with us and talked us through the menu and did a port tasting with us. (We are both now massive lovers of white port which we didn’t know even existed, go check it out!)
We walked over the Ponte de Dom Luís I which is a double deck bridge where you can see a great view, this was on our way to visit the 360 Terrace Lounge which is a rooftop bar with great cocktails (and of course port) with a stunning 360 view of the city. Such a nice way to spend an afternoon relaxing.
We loved wondering through the town, admiring all the beautiful Azulejos tiles which Portugal is know for. The São Bento Railway Station is by far the most stunning train station you’ll ever go to! We of course had to try the traditional Portuguese Pastel de nata’s, a type of egg tart pastry which you can find everywhere in Porto and is super yummy.
On our last full day we did a day boat trip through the Douro Valley which took us to Peso Da Regua and then we got the two hour train ride back to central porto. We got to see the most stunning Portuguese country side while tucking into a three course meal. We did a lot of walking during the trip so it was nice to relax on a boat for most of the day and enjoy the sun.
